It was sad to see that we lost some music icons that I grew up listening to, I was a great fan of the Everly Brothers and with the death of Don that dynasty of the perfect harmonisation of voices has gone,
Then there was the in my opinion the greatest drummer of all time Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones) in my youth I had aspirations to become a drummer but unfortunately my hand coordination left a lot to be desired so in my Butlin Redcoat days I stuck to compering shows with the odd comedy routine.
I was discussing the longevity of the Rolling Stones with a friend the other day and said I would have loved to have seen the Stones play Oxford Town Hall in the sixties (sadly I was only 12 years old and still living in the East End) and he said that the group had never played Oxford Town Hall so I produced a ticket from Saturday January 4th 1964 that cost 9/6d what would that equate to today?

. Charlie Watts had only just joined the Stones following the death of Brian Jones, I attach a photo of the ticket.
For me, it is the Phantom of the Opera as a favourite musical.
With regard to music I like all sorts including classical, recently got into IL Divo and them performing songs from the musicals.

@Dave - The Parrot Man! Cant see you coping with "Kinky Boots" LOL
Favourite musical - for me it has to be West Side Story.
Always been a secret ABBA fan! Apparently "not cool"? My first ever concert was Roxette - fan of Madonna too surprisingly, however I believe she is still breathing! These days more into my musicals - again - so not cool! :)
I like ABBA i do have the cd ABBA Gold but not played it in a long time but they was good back in the days
I love the ABBA music. When I know I have to do something but I am not in the mood, on goes my ABBA CD (Yes still have CDs and a player!) and that stirs me to tackle the grottiest of jobs (oven cleaning included!). Enjoyed Mamma Mia but never got round to seeing the sequel.
As for their concert I need to hear more about how it will work. Probably the cost of the tickets will mean there is no way I would ever get to see it - so for now it's just 'Thank you for the music'!!
Just as a sideline. What do you think of the revival of ABBA after 40 years?? Always liked their music, great at parties and love the films too! Any thoughts on their concert that is like a virtual thing?
Anthony, like you I am sad that so many 'greats' of that time are gone. I think most people love the music of their youth and believe it is better than tunes from the current era. We seem to have heard about so many icons of our time dying but the music and melodies are still living on in our memories - hopefully for many more years.
I remember the Rolling Stones when they played at Magdelan College Ball. A friend worked there at the time and I said I was prepared to work there for nothing in the kitchen if he could get me in. Sadly my mother said 'No way, you are too young to do that so you're not going!' (This is a paraphrase of the words she used I might add!!!)
I like the rolling stones and yes very sad
I admit this was just a couple of years before I appeared on the earth but grew up listening to a lot of this type of thing along with many other good artists. I now start to feel old when I read about the loss of these people as I was a kid when I maybe first come across them.
